Himeji’s First-Ever Santa Parade! Spreading Smiles and Holiday Magic Across the City

In December 2025, Himeji City hosted its very first Santa Parade. The event took place on Otemae-dori, the main thoroughfare overlooking the majestic World Heritage site, Himeji Castle. Under the crisp, clear winter sky, the city was wrapped in a special sense of excitement that felt different from any other day.

On the day of the event, about 60 Santas gathered to march through the streets in time with festive music. As the Santas in their bright red suits appeared, smiles naturally broke out among the crowds lining the street. Everywhere you looked, people were waving and capturing the moment on their cameras.

The parade was held with the official support of Himeji City. Combined with the brilliant illuminations along Otemae-dori and the “pedestrian paradise” event, the entire city was transformed into a holiday wonderland. The sight of the parade with the beautifully lit-up Himeji Castle in the background was truly a scene to remember for everyone who visited.

The crowd was made up of all generations, from babies to seniors. It was heartwarming to see children’s faces light up when they locked eyes with a Santa, and adults pausing their stroll to enjoy the procession. The way the event naturally created a space for everyone, regardless of age, was truly impressive.

One of the highlights was when the Santas began handing out candy during the parade. Though surprised by the unexpected gifts, the recipients looked bashfully happy, and a warm, gentle atmosphere spread through the crowd, making everyone smile.

This Santa Parade was born from a heartfelt wish to bring the joy of the holiday season to both local residents and tourists. Set against the backdrop of Himeji’s unique landscape and culture, the event provided a wonderful space for people to connect naturally and discover the city’s new charms.

The Santa Parade has brought bright smiles and a sense of wonder to winter in Himeji. Our hope is that this event will continue to grow as a beloved tradition that takes deep root in our city for many years to come.
